Ithaca, New York - Megan Monahan scored the game-winning goal on a penalty corner with just 2:34 remaining in regulation (67:26) to lift Lafayette (3-2) to a 4-3 victory over Stanford (4-4) and hand the Cardinal its second consecutive loss in a neutral site game Saturday at Schoellkopf Field. Stanford's Amanda Billmyer picked up her first two goals of the season and increased her career total to 36 points. Beth Gulotta had a pair of goals for Lafayette.
The teams exchanged first half goals, beginning with Molly Melcher of Stanford scoring her first career goal at 17:45 with an assist by Amrit Chima. Lafayette tied the score at 1-1 just before halftime on Gulotta's first goal at 34:36 with an assist by Monahan.
Stanford went ahead 2-1 on an unassisted goal by Billmyer at 37:40 before Gulotta registered another score at 40:21 on an assist by Meredith Hahn to retie the game, 2-2.
Stanford regained the lead at 3-2 on Billmyer's second tally with Christina Williams providing an assist.
Lafayette then rallied to score the final two goals of the contest. Erica Bartsch tied the game at 3-3 with Monohan assisting for the second time. Monahan followed with her game-winning goal assisted by Hahn and Jennifer Stone.
Stanford goalkeeper Emily Zander played the entire contest for the first time this season and registered four saves. Lafayette goalkeeper Casey Devlin stopped six Stanford shots.
Stanford edged Lafayette in shots, 10-9, marking the eighth consecutive game this season that the Cardinal has outshot its opponent.
Stanford continues its season-long eight-game road trip with another neutral site game versus Kent State at Cornell on Sunday (2 pm, ET). Stanford will then return to Northern California to open its NorPac slate at Pacific on Saturday, September 21 (1 pm, PT) before returning home versus Iowa on Sunday, September 22 (1 pm, PT).
