Stanford, Calif. -- - The second-ranked Stanford women's soccer team outshot Oklahoma 25-2 en route to a 4-0 win on Friday night in front of 957 fans in the second game of the Stanford Nike Invitational. Marcia Wallis (Los Gatos, CA) led the Cardinal with two goals in the first half as Stanford improves to 5-0 on the season.
The Cardinal dominated the game from the beginning, with Becky Myers (St. Charles, IL) recording Stanford's first shot at the five minute mark. Wallis then got Stanford on the board at 35:39 when she collected a rebound shot that was fired by Allyson Marquand (Irvine, CA).
Wallis added her second goal of the game off an assist from Marcie Ward (Alamo, CA) to put the Cardinal up 2-0 at 41:47. Ward stole the ball from a Sooner defender and crossed it to Wallis for the score.
Stanford continued its domination in the second half and five minutes later, Ward took the ball and beat a defender, netting her third goal of the season from 25 yards out. The Cardinal added one more score at 79:42. Freshman Lindsey Hunt (San Marino, CA) played a cross from the right wing and Natalie Sanderson (Ventura, CA) lifted the ball over the Oklahoma keeper for a 4-0 Cardinal victory.
Stanford outshot the Sooners 25-2 and did not let allow an Oklahoma shot until the 55th minute of the game. Walls led the Cardinal with five shots, while Kelsey Carlson (Citrus Heights, CA) added four.
Oklahoma's Catherine Wade had 10 saves in goal, while Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, PA) recorded one.
In the first game of the Stanford Nike Invitational, No. 16 Florida and No. 10 Santa Clara played to a 2-2 double overtime tie.
Play will continue Sunday with the Sooners (6-1-0) taking on Santa Clara (3-2-1) at 11 a.m., followed by Florida (3-3-1) and Stanford (5-0) at 1 p.m. Both game will be played on Maloney Field.
