Stanford Moves To Top Of NorPac With 1-0 Overtime Win Over Pacific

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford (6-6, 2-0 NorPac) moved to the top of the NorPac West Division standings with a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory over Pacific (1-6, 0-2 NorPac) on Saturday at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf. Tysie Sawyer scored the game's only goal on an assist by Amrit Chima at 76:17 to lift the Cardinal to a half-game lead over California (6-2, 1-0 NorPac) in the West Division race. Stanford goalkeepers Emily Zander and Ana Kralovec shared the shutout for the Cardinal.

"This was a huge win for us," said Sawyer. "We really needed this game."

"All of our conference games are extremely important," added Stanford head coach Sheryl Johnson. "Overtime victories are always exciting."

Stanford outshot Pacific, 16-5, in the contest and held a 15-2 advantage in penalty corners. Pacific goalkeeper Gina Sadler had six saves.

Chima took over Stanford's individual scoring lead with the assist and now has 11 points on the season.

Stanford's victory gave the Cardinal a two-game regular season sweep over Pacific. Stanford has won 12 of its last 14 games against NorPac competition.

Stanford begins a key four-game road stretch at NorPac rival St. Louis on Friday, October 4 (3:00 pm, CT).
