Box Score
Stanford, Calif. - Matt Janusz and Taylor Graham each scored a goal and senior goalkeeper Andrew Terris recorded his third shutout of the season as the top-ranked Stanford men's soccer team defeated Washington, 3-0, in the Pacific-10 season opener for both teams on Friday night at Harry Maloney Field.
The Cardinal began the game without the services of two starters, senior All-American Roger Levesque and senior defender Todd Dunivant. Levesque was sidelined by a right knee injury, while Dunivant has a tore quad muscle in his right leg.
That meant Seyi Abolaji and Matt Janusz earned a starting role against the Huskies and helped Stanford to its tenth victory of the season with one loss.
Janusz recorded his fourth goal of the season at 14:55 of the first half. Mike Wilson began the assault when he fired a shot at Husky goalkeeper Chris Eylander. Wilson's shot bounced off the chest of Eylander, and Janusz raced to the ball and kicked it into the right corner of the Washington net.
Then less than four minutes later, Taylor Graham recorded his first goal of the season when he headed in a corner kick by James Twellman.
Stanford's defense recorded his seventh shutout of the season. Terris, a senior, recorded three saves. Washington attempted 12 shots compared to 8 for the Cardinal.
Stanford now awaits 18th ranked Oregon State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Harry Maloney Field. The Beavers dropped their league opener to California, 5-0, to fall to 9-2-0.
