Stanford, Calif. -- The Stanford men's golf team carded a 284 in the final round of the Nelson Invitational to finish tied for seventh overall with a three-round total of 862 today at the Stanford Golf Course. Duke won the team title firing an 841 for the tournament. Rounding out the top five were Washington (848), Georgia Tech (852), Colorado State (854), North Carolina State (859) and Kansas (859).
Leif Olson from Duke finished atop the individual leaderboard after shooting a 12-under par 201 for the tournament. Washington's Brock Mackenzie, North Carolina State's Justin Walters and Georgia Tech's Nicholas Thompson finished one stroke back at 11-under par 202. Martin Laird from Colorado State placed fifth with a six-under par 207.
Stanford was led by Jim Seki, who tied for sixth overall with a five-under par 208. Teammate Ron Won tied for 14th after carding a one-under 212. Senior Del de Windt shot a one-under par 70 today to tie for 35th overall with a 219. Pat Phillips tied for 68th with a 226.
The Stanford "White" team, competing as individuals was led by George Downing who tied for 37th with a 220 while Blake Mastalir checked in tied for 76th with a 228. Freshman Kyle Gentry took 82nd (230) and fellow frosh Scott MacDonald placed 91st (235).
The Stanford men are next in action at The Prestige, November 4-5, in La Quinta, Calif. for their final tournament of the fall.
