Fenton, Mo. - Southwest Missouri State (4-6) scored twice in the first half and held on for a 2-1 non-conference victory over Stanford (7-7) in a neutral site game on Saturday at the Anheuser-Busch Center, ending the Cardinal's two-game win streak. Amrit Chima scored Stanford's lone goal on a penalty corner with 0:42 remaining in the contest to pick up her 16th and 17th points of the campaign, setting a new personal single-season record. Chima has scored at least one point in seven of Stanford's last nine contests.
"Today was a tough loss," said Stanford head coach Sheryl Johnson. "We saw lots of room for improvement going forward. It was a great opportunity for us to play against anopponent that we will likely see in the Nor Pac Championship tournament."
Southwest Missouri State opened the scoring on an unassisted goal by Leah Postorino at the 14:13 mark of the first half. The Bears added to their lead just before halftime at 31:36 on a goal by Amanda Hanson with an assist credited to Natalie Hoffman.
Neither team scored again until Chima's goal at 69:18 on assists by Noor Dawood and Liz Ott cut the Southwest Missouri State lead in half just before time ran out.
Jessie Linninger picked up five saves for the Bears. Stanford goalkeepers Emily Zander and Ana Kralovec again split the contest in the net with each recording two saves. Kralovec was unscored upon in the second half and has now held opponents scoreless for each of her last four contests, playing one half in each game.
Stanford held solid advantages in both shots (15-7) and penalty corners (11-7). The Cardinal has now outshot its opponents in 12 of 14 games this season.
Stanford returns to NorPac action with a rematch at Saint Louis (1-8, 0-2 NorPac) on Monday (2:00 pm, CT). The Cardinal then finishes a four-game road stretch with a key contest at California (7-3, 2-0) on Saturday, October 12 (1:00 pm, PT). Stanford currently leads the Golden Bears by one-half game in the NorPac West Division standings. Stanford next returns home for a non-conference game versus Yale on Sunday, October 20 (1:00 pm, PT).
