Redwood Shores - Stanford sailing hosted the Bryson Women's regatta Saturday and Sunday in the shadow of the construction of the new Crew and Sailing Boathouse. The event is held in memory of Stanford Alum, Rebecca Bryson's ('91) father Bruce. Light air dominated the event, and the eight competing teams were only able to get in 8 races each day; for a total of 8 in A division and 8 in B division. On Saturday, Jen Porter '04 and Jessie Duncan '05 competed in A division while Liz Shearer '04 and Margia Corner '04 competed in B division. The team ended the day 3rd overall, narrowly behind Cal and UCSB. In an effort to give the Cardinal Women at least one day off this weekend, the squad was split for the competition. This proved difficult for Sunday's team of Ashley Frush '04 and Shadi Mehraein '04 (A div) and Liz Rountree '06 and Megan Heinen '06 (B div). While the other competing teams had Saturday's races to become accustomed to the unusual light air conditions, the Cardinal Sunday squad was starting from nothing! Frush/Mehraein posted a 7,8,7,5 for the day- redeeming themselves slightly with a 5th in the last race. In B division, Rountree/Heinen managed a 5,5,3,1 for the day, joyfully winning the last race of the regatta, and helping the Cardinal secure 2nd place in B division.
Next weekend, the women are going back east for the Navy Women's regatta.
