STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore Sebnem Kimyacioglu (Mountain View, CA) had 19 points, including five 3-pointers, as sixth-ranked Stanford University rolled to a 103-61 exhibition victory over Team Concept on Thursday night at Maples Pavilion. In all, seven of the nine Stanford players in uniform reached double figures.
The Cardinal, which concludes exhibition play with a 2-0 record (including an 89-73 win over Love & Basketball on Sunday), opens the 2002-03 regular season at home against Rutgers on Friday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Maples Pavilion.
The Cardinal, which had six sophomores, three freshmen and no juniors or seniors in uniform on Thursday night, started and finished with a flourish in the 42-point victory.
Stanford jumped out to a 17-4 lead 5 minutes, 7 seconds into the contest behind a pair of 3-pointers from redshirt sophomore Susan King (Richfield, MN) and one from sophomore Azella Perryman (Anchorage, AK). Stanford was 16-of-32 (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc on the night, and was 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) in the second half alone. In the two exhibition games, Stanford shot 47.5 (28-of-59) percent from 3-point range.
Stanford led 48-24 at the half, but Team Concept cut the deficit to 13 (56-43) with 12:37 to go thanks to a 17-5 run.
But it was all Stanford the rest of the way. The Cardinal outscored the visitors 47-18 over the final 12 minutes, including a 13-1 run in the closing moments.
In addition to Kimyacioglu's 19 points, the Cardinal received 16 points and three 3-pointers from sophomore Kelley Suminski (Chester, NJ) and 14 points and nine rebounds from Perryman. Freshman Krista Rappahahn (Lebanon, CT) chipped in 12 points, four assists and four steals, redshirt sophomore Chelsea Trotter (San Dimas, CA) and freshman Clare Bodensteiner (Rupert, ID) added 11 points apiece and T'Nae Thiel (Weatherford, TX) pitched in her second double-double in as many exhibition games with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Jamie Redd led Team Concept with 17 points, including 7-of-11 shooting, while Stanford alum Enjoli Izidor contributed eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.
