NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - The first year collegiate rowers from Stanford took their first racing strokes at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival in Newport Beach, CA.
After 2.5 hours of race delay due to fog the Stanford novice started fourth in a field of twenty boats. The traditional staggered start of head racing had the Cardinal 30 seconds behind the crew that started first making them very difficult to pass. The young crew did not get passed from behind on their way to an eighth place overall finish.
Coach Carrie Davis was, "Pleased by their performance and that they met their goal of having a clean race without being passed."
The novice have one more race this fall in two weeks at the Bair Island Fall Regatta in San Mateo, CA
