Radford Opens Up NorPac Championships with a 5-0 Victory Over Saint Louis

Stanford, Calif. - Becky Glynn scored a pair of goals as Radford (8-10) posted a 5-0 victory over Saint Louis (2-17) in a first round game of the 2002 NorPac Championships on Thursday at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf. Alison Douglass, Megan Driest and Erin Lenhardt also contributed goals for the Highlanders.

Radford, seeded No. 1 in the East Division moves on to a NorPac semifinal game versus the winner of the Stanford and Davidson matchup, on Friday at 1 pm. Saint Louis will play loser of Stanford vs. Davidson in a consolation bracket game at 3 pm. RU goalkeeper Tina Caiazza recorded her seventh shutout of the season for the Highlanders, making two saves both coming early in the first half.

The Highlanders got all they would need at 23:17 when Douglass poked home a rebound after SLU keeper Julie Moeckel stopped the initial shot by Lenhardt. A little over four minutes later, Glynn found the back of the cage off an assist from Erin Hebert.

RU made it 3-0 just 1:16 into the second half, when Megan Driest took a pass from Jammie Hillian and rifled one from the top of the circle past Moekel. Glynn would make it 4-0 at 51:46, scoring after gaining control of deflected ball off a SLU defender. RU would close out the scoring at 59:24 when Erin Lenhardt corralled a long rebound and fired one into the back of the net.

The Highlanders outshot the Saint Louis 22-4 and outcornered them, 16-1. Moeckel made 10 saves in defeat for SLU.
