BOSTON (AP) - Chelsea Trotter scored a career-high 16 points to lead fifth-ranked Stanford to a 69-55 win at Boston University on Saturday afternoon.
Stanford (6-1) controlled the game from the opening minutes and bounced back from its only loss of the season, a 71-56 setback at No. 4 Tennessee on Wednesday.
The Cardinal broke othe game midway through the second half. The Terriers cut Stanford's lead to 45-36 with 11:48 left, but Stanford responded with a 16-3 run highlighted by 3-pointers from Kelley Suminski and Sebnem Kimyacioglu.
Suminski punctuated the Cardinal burst with a steal and layup off an errant Terriers' inbound pass that pushed Stanford's lead to 59-39.
The Cardinal defense forced BU into taking poor shots most of the game, holding the Terriers to just 33 percent shooting, and the Terriers went over five minutes without a field goal late in the first half as Stanford methodically pushed its lead from 22-16 to 33-19.
Stanford outrebounded the Terriers 24-13 in the opening frame, and 46-30 for the game. But Boston hung close by forcing Stanford into committing 11 first-half turnovers, and Katie Terhune led all scorers in the half with 10 points, most of which came by creating her own shot.
Boston outscored the Cardinal 7-2 in the final 1:35 of the half to cut Stanford's lead to 35-26 at the break.
Terhune scored 19 points to lead Boston, and Marisa Moseley added 11 points. T'Nae Thiel added 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for Stanford.
The contest marked the first time in 20 years that the Terriers had faced an opponent ranked as high as Stanford. They lost to No. 3 Old Dominion 90-63 on Feb. 6, 1982.
