Stanford, Calif. - Casey Jacobsen had 41 points and he and Curtis Borchardt combined to make five free throws over the final two minutes of overtime to lift No. 20 Stanford to a 90-87 victory over No. 13 Oregon onThursday night.
It was the second time in three games Jacobsen scored at least 40 points ashe had 49 against Arizona State a week ago.
Stanford (14-6, 7-4 Pac-10) was 8-of-11 from the foul line in the overtime.
Borchardt had 24 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots for theCardinal.
Frederick Jones matched his career-high with 36 points as the Ducks (17-6,9-3) had their three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 3-5 on the road.He also had 10 rebounds. Luke Ridnour scored eight of his 18 points inovertime, while Luke Jackson had 17.
Robert Johnson also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 reboundsas Oregon lost to a ranked opponent for the first time this season.
A layup by Johnson put the Ducks ahead 76-75 with 44 seconds remaining inregulation.
Stanford worked the clock down to 23 seconds before calling a timeout. Theball was inbounded to Jacobsen, who worked his way free for a shot that bouncedoff the front of the rim and Jones grabbed the rebound. He was immediatelyfouled.
After Jones made both free throws, the Cardinal couldn't get the ball toJacobsen. That left it up to Tony Giovacchini - Stanford's only senior - whonailed a 3-pointer with four seconds left to tie it at 78.
Oregon couldn't get off a shot before time expired in regulation.
Marked by stubborn play on both ends of the court, neither team could gain astronghold. Oregon opened a four-point lead four minutes into the second halfon a 3-pointer by Jones, but the Cardinal took the lead four minutes later whenJacobsen drove the lane twice in succession to put Stanford up 47-45.
Jacobsen had 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting in the first half.
Jones proved just as difficult to guard. He hit two crucial 3-pointers downthe stretch and was able to create several other scoring opportunities forhimself.
Borchardt's three blocked shots in the first 20 minutes gave him the schoolseason record of 52. Tim Young had 50 in 1996-97.
Jones and Jackson combined for 25 of Oregon's 34 points in the first half.
Neither team led by more than five points in the game. After 11 leadchanges, the game was tied 34-34 at halftime.
Stanford graduate Mark Madsen, now playing with the Los Angeles Lakers,received a standing ovation when he was introduced during a timeout in thesecond half.
