Stanford, Calif. - The No. 1 Stanford women's water polo team cruised to a 15-1 victory over Pacific on Saturday afternoon in MPSF action at Avery Aquatic Center. The win marks the Cardinal's 12th consecutive to improve to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Tigers fall to 3-8 and 1-5 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Brenda Villa (Commerce, CA) got Stanford on the scoreboard first, netting a penalty shot at 6:44 in the first quarter. The Cardinal then went on a 12-0 run highlighted by three scores from Wendy Watkins (Modesto, CA) and two goals each from Villa, Ellen Estes (Novato, CA) and Julie Gardner (Atherton, CA). Stanford led 13-0 at the half.
Pacific got on the board in the third quarter when Amy Valois-Collette took advantage of a Tiger 6-on-5. Stanford added two more goals in the final frame by Cindy Henn (Orange, CA) and Shannon Avrett (Modesto, CA) to claim the 15-1 victory.
Villa and Watkins led the Cardinal offensive attack with three goals, while Estes and Gardner netted two scores. Jackie Frank (Long Beach, CA) had four saves in goal for Stanford.
The Cardinal will travel down to face CS Northridge and USC next weekend on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30.
