Top-Ranked Women's Water Polo Wins 13th Straight

Northridge, Calif. - The No. 1 Stanford women's water polo team handed CS Northridge a 15-1 defeat on Friday afternoon at Matador Pool. The Cardinal improved their winning streak to 13 games to stand perfect at 13-0 and 5-0 in the MPSF, while the Matadors fall to 3-13 and 0-8 in conference play.

Stanford continued to dominate the beginning of its games, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. Brenda Villa (Commerce, CA) accounted for two of the Cardinal's six goals. Villa, Ellen Estes (Novato, CA) and Hannah Luber (Beaverton, OR) all netted scores to put Stanford up 9-0 at the half.

Wendy Watkins (Modesto, CA) scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter and twin sisters Hannah and Kelty Luber (Beaverton, OR) added to the Cardinal's 13-0 scoring run.

Pam Barba netted the lone Matador goal at 6:31 in the fourth quarter. Margie Dingeldein (Merced, CA) and Lauren Faust (Annapolis, MD) scored Stanford's final goals to secure the 15-1 victory.

Four Cardinal had multiple goal games led by Villa and Watkins, each contributing hat tricks. Estes and Hannah Luber netted two scores to Stanford's offensive attack. Jackie Frank (Long Beach, CA) recorded four saves in goal for the Cardinal and Julie Gardner (Atherton, CA) collected one.

Stanford will conclude its road trip tomorrow when they face third-ranked USC on Saturday at noon.
