STANFORD
Head Coach Mark Marquess
(Opening Statement)
"It was a classic college baseball game. There was a lot riding on this game and there were two great pitching performances. It was just a great college game, with a great crowd and some great plays. We've played some good games with Cal State Fullerton. We played a tight game against them at the College World Series last year. It's just tough for anyone to lose that game."
(On Jeremy Guthrie)
"He's really pitched his best baseball the last five weeks. Obviously he didn't want to come out of the game. He's been our Friday guy for the last two years and he has come up big for us. He's had five straight complete games. It would've been a shame for him not to win after 13 innings, but it's tough for Littleton too. He's just right up there with the great pitchers Stanford has had. He's up for the Golden Spikes award and deservingly so. He's worked hard and he's earned it."
(On Long Beach State)
"They're good. They just swept this team (Cal State Fullerton) three straight games and hit Littleton real well. We know we'll have our hands full.
Starting Pitcher Jeremy Guthrie
"Physically I could've gone longer, but I would've come out after that inning. He (Littleton) pitched a great game. We knew we were going to be up against a great pitcher and he didn't let us down. There were just so many thoughts and so much emotions and gratefulness in my heart. I just wanted to go out there and help the team win until the very end."
Third Baseman Scott Dragicevich
"Scoring the run in the eighth inning was an important run. I think we felt after we did that, we knew we could do it again."
Catcher Dony Lucy
"I think as a freshman you just hope for that opportunity to come in and contribute. Coach Marquess showed confidence in me. There was a runner on in my first at bat and I had a chance to end it then, but didn't. I just knew that on my next at bat I wanted to help the team win. It feels great."
CAL STATE FULLERTON
Head Coach George Horton
(Opening Statement)
"That was a great baseball game with two great pitchers and our relievers going toe to toe as well. Just another Stanford-Fullerton classic. I'm just kind of tired of being on the short end of the stick at these games.
(On Jeremy Guthrie)
"He's one of the nation's finest pitchers. His mechanics allow him to run his pitch count up. Knowing how competitive he is, they probably would've had to rip the ball out of his hands."
(On his players that were hit)
"(David) Fischer is okay. He's got a fat lip, but there doesn't seem to be any structural damage to his face. (Jason) Corapci isn't doing so well. It looks like he might have a concussion. We hope he'll be okay to play tomorrow."
(On the rest of the Regional)
"It's going to be difficult. Probably the toughest part is the turnaround. Going this late tonight and having to play in 12 hours. My team will be ready."
Starting Pitcher Wes Littleton
"Basically I didn't think about what he (Guthrie) was doing. I just pitched my own game. I felt that way until the ninth, I just wanted to finish it. I had so much adrenaline going, I didn't realize how tired I was."
Third Baseman Mike Martinez
"We've got to come out tomorrow. It's our season and if that's not enough than to get us up than we don't deserve to be here. Our backs are against the wall. We've just got to come out to play."
