Stanford Drops First Game Of Season At Syracuse, 3-0

Syracuse, New York - Stanford (3-1) dropped its first game of the season with a 3-0 loss at 2001 NCAA quarterfinalist Syracuse (1-0) in a non-conference game at Coyne Field on Friday. Audrey Latsko recorded the shutout and picked up four saves. Missy Grosman, Jackie Sheaffer and Kristin Aronowicz scored goals for Syracuse, all coming after penalty corners. Ann-Marie Guglieri picked up a pair of assists for the winners, while Sheaffer added one. Stanford edged Syracuse in shots taken, 10-9, despite losing for only the third time in its last 14 games.Stanford had been on the winning end of three consecutive shutouts to open the season and was held scoreless for the first time since losing the 2001 NorPac Championship game.

Grosman started the scoring with a goal on a direct corner kick at 28:59 as Guglieri picked up her first assist. Sheaffer then gave Syracuse a 2-0 lead at 48:17 with an unassisted goal on an indirect corner kick. Aronowicz tallied the final Syracuse score on assists from Sheaffer and Guglieri at 63:40.

Stanford goalkeeper Emily Zander suffered her first loss of the season by giving up a first half goal before Ana Kralovec surrendered the final two scores.

Stanford continues its season-long eight-game road trip with a neutral site game versus New Hampshire to be played at Syracuse on Sunday, September 8 (1 pm, ET). Stanford will next be in action at home versus Iowa on Sunday, September 22 (1 pm, PT).
