Eugene & Corvallis, Ore. - Stanford (2-8) dropped two duals today on the road as Oregon handed the Cardinal a 32-6 loss in the afternoon and Oregon State fell Stanford 35-7 this evening. Sophomore Matt Gentry (Grants Pass, OR/North Valley) started both meets well giving the Cardinal a lead after the first bout on a decision against Oregon and a major decision over Oregon State. Junior Nathan Peterson (Georgetown, IN/Floyd Central) also tallied two wins on the day as he earned a decision in each dual.
Gentry, an Oregon native, started the day by scoring a 10-4 decision over the Ducks 157-pounder Branson Phillips. Gentry recorded four takedowns to secure the win. In his second bout, Gentry faced the Beavers' Brian Duhrkoop and notched an 11-3 major decision. He again tallied four takedowns and added a reversal en route to his 21st win of the season.
Peterson brought the Cardinal within 10 against Oregon after posting a 10-5 overtime decision over Martin Mitchell at 125 pounds. After the third period, the bout was tied at five, but in the extra period, Peterson scored a takedown and a 3-point nearfall as time was expiring to earn the five-point victory. In his second contest, Peterson started with a two point deficit after Oregon State's Michael Delaney earned a takedown just over a minute into the match but rebounded for the 4-2 victory. Peterson tallied two escapes to tie the bout and scored a takedown with 30 seconds to go to earn his 11th win of the season.
The Cardinal will head to Portland State tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match against the Vikings.
