No. 8 Stanford Falls To No. 6 Denver

Denver, Colo. - The eighth-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team were defeated by the University of Denver 196.475-195.575 on Saturday night at the Hamilton Gymnasium. Junior Kendall Beck (San Antonio, TX) highlighted the meet for the Cardinal, recording a career-high 9.950 on vault and a 9.900 on the balance beam.

Sixth-ranked Denver handed Stanford its first loss of the season, falling to 3-1 overall. The Pioneers captured their first win over the Cardinal in eight attempts to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Beck's career-high mark and winning score of 9.950 on the vault was followed by freshman teammate Natalie Foley's (Colorado Springs, CO) 9.875 score to place second on the event. Junior Lise L?veill? (Burnby, B.C.) and freshman Glyn Sweets (Reston, VA) each recorded an 9.800 to tie for fifth.

Junior Lindsay Wing (Cypress, TX) led the Cardinal on the bars with a 9.850 to place third. Foley, L?veill? and Sweets all posted scores of 9.800 to tie for sixth.

Beck continued her career-high night with a 9.900 performance on beam to place second. Foley and Wing tied for third with a 9.875 mark. L?veill? led the Cardinal on the floor exercise, tying for fourth place with a score of 9.875.

Foley was the high scorer for Stanford in the all-around competition, tallying a 39.375 to place third. L?veill? was right behind in fourth place with a 39.325. Denver's Michelle Kasuage won the meet with a 39.625 score.

Stanford will try to get back on the winning track on Friday, Jan. 24 against rival California. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Berkeley.
