Stanford Falls In Seattle

Box Score

SEATTLE (AP) - Staford junior All-American Nicole Powell had 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists, but it wasn't enough as Stanford fell at Washington 92-68 on Thursday night at Bank of America Arena.

The Huskies (18-6 overall, 10-4 Pac-10) bounced back against the Pac-10 leader after dropping two league games last week in Arizona and reversed a loss at Stanford in the teams' first game this season on Jan. 18.

Washington improved to 12-0 at home.

Giuliana Mendiola had 20 points, Andrea Lalum 16 points and Loree Payne 13 for the Huskies, who beat Stanford for the third time in their last four games in Seattle.

The Cardinal (19-3, 11-2) were led by Powell's 20 points. Chelsea Trotter and Kelley Suminski each had 14 for Stanford, which had a four-game winning streak broken.

Washington shot 50 percent (13-for-26) from 3-point range and committed only eight turnovers, while Stanford shot 5-for-19 from behind the arc.

The Huskies led 49-38 at halftime after Stanford scored the final eight points in the last 39 seconds of the first half. The Cardinal got the help of a technical on the Washington bench, after coach June Daugherty slammed her clipboard onto the court.

The Cardinal were close at 63-52 after a basket by Trotter, but Mendiola hit a 3-pointer and a 12-footer to put Washington in front 68-52 with 10:55 to play.
