Seattle, Wash. - The 14th-ranked Washington women's gymnastics team (6-3) upset eighth-ranked Stanford (7-2-1) 196.775 to 196.750 in a dual meet held at Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Junior Lindsay Wing (Cypress, TX) won the beam (9.950) and Lise L?veill? (Burnaby, BC) led the Cardinal with a 39.350 all-around score.
The Cardinal started off the meet by notching their second highest score of the season on bars. Wing led Stanford with a fourth place finish and a season-high 9.900 mark. Freshman Glyn Sweets (Reston, VA) and junior Caroline Fluhrer (Seattle, WA) tied for fifth with a 9.875 score.
Stanford then moved to vault, were Kendall Beck (San Antonio, TX) scored a 9.875 to place third. Teammates Natalie Foley (Englewood, CO) and L?veill? followed with 9.800 performances to tie for eighth.
L?veill? and Shelly Goldberg (Mequon, WI) paced the Cardinal on floor, recording 9.875 marks to tie for third. Fluhrer finished tied for fifth (9.850), Wing tied for seventh (9.825) and Foley placed ninth (9.800) for Stanford.
Washington held a slim one-tenth of one point lead heading into the final rotation, but the Cardinal could not hold off the Huskies. Stanford gave a good effort, scoring a 49.400 on beam. Wing won the event with a 9.950 performance, while L?veill? placed second with a 9.925 mark. Sweets (9.875) and Beck (9.850) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
L?veill? placed fourth in the all-around with a 39.350, marking her second highest score of the season. Foley also turned in an impress performance, 39.200, to place fifth.
The Cardinal will return home next Friday, Feb. 21 to battle Arizona State. Competition will take place in Maples Pavilion and feature a dual meet with the Stanford's men's team taking on Air Force.
