Stanford, Calif. - Eighth-ranked Stanford (8-2-1, 3-1-1 Pac-10) handed seventh-ranked Arizona State (5-4, 2-4 Pac-10) a 197.200-196.850 loss this evening at Maples Pavilion while junior Lise L?veill? (Burnaby, BC) posted a career-high score on the All-Around to help the Cardinal to its eighth win of the season.
The Cardinal jumped out to an early lead by posting four 9.900's on the vault as Kendall Beck (San Antonio, TX), Natalie Foley (Englewood, CO), L?veill? and Glyn Sweets (Reston, VA) each tied for first place. The team's 49.450 is a season-high score for the Cardinal on the vault.
Stanford finished the rotation with a strong showing on bars and edged the Sun Devils by .025 to increase its lead to over half a point heading into the second half of the meet. L?veill?'s scores crept up throughout the night as she took a share of first on each event and chalked up a 9.925 on bars for a piece of the title.
Led by 9.950's by L?veill? and Lindsay Wing (Cypress, TX), the Cardinal won beam by over one-tenth of a point - good for a .725 lead heading into the floor exercise. The Cardinal posted its second season-high score of the night with a 49.575 on beam.
Arizona State was able to cut the Stanford lead by edging the Cardinal on the floor. L?veill?, who's ranked No. 12 in the nation in the All-Around, posted her second 9.950 on the event as she compiled a career-high 39.725 All-Around score.
Tonight's meet also featured the 12th-ranked Stanford men's team, who posted a 211.500-195.450 win over Air Force. The Stanford women will be visiting Arizona next Friday, February 28 for a 7:30 p.m. Pac-10 matchup.
