No. 8 Stanford Edges No. 17 Arizona

Tucson, Ariz. - The eighth-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team captured a big win over No. 17 Arizona, 196.950-196.850, on Friday night before a crowed of 692 in the McKale Center. With the win, Stanford improves to 9-2-1, 4-1-1 in the Pac-10, while Arizona falls to 4-7 and 1-4 in the conference.

Stanford jumped out to an early lead over the Wildcats in the first rotation, posting a team mark of 48.925 on bars while Arizona finished with a 48.700 on vault. The Cardinal was able to extend its lead slightly over the Wildcats in the second rotation with a school record mark of 49.475 on vault.

Natalie Foley (Englewood, CO) and Caroline Fluhrer (Seattle, WA) took the top-two bar places with career-high marks. Foley earned a 9.975 and Fluhrer received a 9.950 score to place second. Stanford was dominate on vault, capturing the top-five spots. Kendall Beck (San Antonio, TX) tied her career-high mark with a 9.950 to take first place honors. Foley, Shelly Goldberg (Mequon, WI) and Lise L?veill? (Burnaby, BC) all tied for second with a 9.900. Jessica Louie (Sacramento, CA) rounded out the top-five with her 9.825 performance.

The Cardinal extended their lead on floor, posting a season-high 49.300 team score. Foley and L?veill? were Stanford's top scores with a 9.900 to tie for third.

Arizona made its run to pass Stanford in the final rotation, scoring a 49.500 on floor. The Cardinal was able to hold off the Wildcats by posting a 49.250 on beam in the final rotation, escaping with the victory by only .100 of a point. Lindsay Wing (Cypress, TX) led Stanford on the event with a 9.925 performance, while Glyn Sweets (Reston, VA) tied for fourth with a 9.850.

Foley and Arizona's Monica Bisordi tied for first in the all-around with scores of 39.600. L?veill? followed just behind with a 39.450 mark to place third.

Stanford returns to the Bay Area next weekend when they travel to San Jose State on Friday, March 7. Competition is set to begin at 7 p.m.
