Jillian Camarena Breaks Long-Standing School Shot Put Mark At NCAA Indoor Championships

Fayetteville, Ark - Jillian Camarena broke the long-standing school record and gained All-America honors in the women's indoor shot put to highlight Stanford's participation during first day action on Friday at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Arkansas.

Camarena threw the shot put 57-2 3/4 (17.44m), breaking the school mark of 57-1 (17.40m) by Pam Dukes in 1987.

Camarena's second place performance helped Stanford assume a second place showing with 22 points after the first day of competition. The Cardinal is tied with Indiana. LSU leads with 23 points.

Alicia Craig and Lauren Fleshman each added to their All-America laurels with third and fourth place finishes, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Craig broke her own school record with a time of 15:43.04. Craig had originally set the school record earlier in the year with a time of 16:05.24. Fleshman gained All-America honors for the 13th time in her four-year career with a time of 15:47.36, the second-best time in school history.

The women's distance medley relay team of Malindi Elmore, Christine Moschella, Katie Hotchkiss and Jeane Goff gained All-America honors by finish sixth in a time of 11:13.26.

The men's distance medley relay team of Seth Hejny, Nick Sebes, Evan Fox and Grant Robison all gained All-America honors by finishing second in a time of 9:29.69. That time was second best all-time at Stanford.

Louis Luchini finished fifth in the 5,000 meters to earn All-America accolades in a time of 13:48.78, the third-best time in school history.
