STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's tennis team, ranked third in the nation, defeated seventh ranked Arizona State Friday at the Taube Tennis Center. The Cardinal improved its record to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in Pac -10 play. Arizona State dropped its overall record to 6-2 and 1-1 overall.
At No. 1 singles, Stanford's 10th-ranked Amber Liu (La Mesa, CA) defeated 20th-ranked Adria Engel 6-3, 6-4. At No. 1 doubles, Stanford's top-ranked team of Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) and Erin Burdette (Jackson, GA) edged 54th-ranked Lauren Colalillo and Engel 8-6.
The women's tennis team will try for double digit wins on Saturday March 8th at 12:00 p.m. against the visiting Arizona Wildcats. The Cardinal will be off until they face UNLV in Las Vegas on Tuesday March at 2:00 pm.
