No. 16 Stanford Edges No. 15 Notre Dame in Double Overtime

South Bend, Ind. - Stanford women's lacrosse posted its tenth victory of the season today as the Cardinal posted a 14-13 double overtime win over 15th-ranked Notre Dame today at Moose Krause Stadium. The Cardinal fought from behind in the second half and the first overtime before sophomore Kelsey Twist scored her fourth goal of the game with 2:35 left in the second overtime for the 14-13 win. The Cardinal improve to 10-2 on the season while Notre Dame falls to 4-6.

Stanford took a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes on two goals from Nina Pantano and one by freshman Megan Burker. The Irish battled back and took a 7-6 lead, but Burker netted her second goal of the day with 10 seconds left in the first half to tie the contest at 7-7 during the break. The teams were even throughout the second half and Burker tallied her fourth goal with 1:32 left in regulation to tie the game at 11-11 and send the game into overtime.

In the second overtime, the Irish took the lead two minutes in, but freshman Cassie Harvey tacked on a goal 13 seconds later for the sixth tie of the day. Notre Dame took the 13-12 lead with just over two minutes left in the first overtime period. The Irish controlled the next draw, but a turnover with 40 seconds left set up Julia Calzonetti for the score with 18 seconds to go to send the match into a second overtime. With 2:35 to go in the second overtime session, Twist tallied the game-winner.

Stanford keeper Christina Saikus played the entire 72 minutes for the Cardinal and collected 10 saves.

Stanford will be back in action on Saturday, April 19th at 1 p.m. as the Cardinal take on top-ranked Loyola at Maloney Field.
