Cardinal Men's 1,600 Meter Relay Team Runs To Victory At Texas Relays

Austin, Tx - The Stanford men's 4 x 400 meter relay team (Milton Little, Gerren Crochet, T.J. Rushing, Nick Sebes) ran to victory on Saturday night at the 76th annual Texas Relays.

The Cardinal chalked up a time of 3:07.77, a season-best and the third-best time in school history. The Cardinal had entered the finals with a time of 3:08.30 in the prelims. Mississippi State finished second at 3:08.15. The Cardinal's time meets NCAA West Regional standard.

The Stanford men's 400 meter relay team finished eighth in a time of 40.65. Stanford had run 40.24 in the prelims. Mississippi State won the race in a time of 39.16.

In women's competition at the Texas Relays, the 400 meter relay team finished fifth in a time of 46.22. USA Red won the event in a time of 38.75.

In the 1,600 meter relay, the Stanford women placed eighth in a time of 3:40.92. The Cardinal women qualified for Saturday's final with a school record time of 3:34.82. Texas won the event in a time of 3:26.96.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Lindsey Johnson ran a wind-aided 13.56 to finish fourth. Joyce Bates, running unattached, won the race in a time of 13.12.

At the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational at UCLA's Drake Stadium, Jessica Pluth finished second in the hammer with an effort of 57.76 meters. Sarah Hopping was third (56.12m) while Donielle Colich placed eighth (51.22). Cari Soong of UCLA won the competition (61.78m).

Three Cardinal athletes finished in the Top 10 in the discus. Molly Meyer was sixth (161-6, 49.23m) while Jill Camarena placed ninth (150-6, 45.87m) and Kitty Currier placed tenth (147-1, 44.84m). Seilala Sua, representing Nike, won the event (189-11, 57.90m).

Camarena placed sixth in the shot put (52-0, 15.85m). Kristin Heaston, competing unattached, won the event (57-6 1/4, 17.53m).

The javelin competition saw Jennifer Lee place sixth (40.87m) while Erin Merriman finish seventh (39.07m). Krista Woodward of Georgia won the competition (47.97m).
