Cleveland, Ohio - Eight-time champion Stanford University has topped the 1,000-point mark as the winter championship season concludes in the NACDA Directors' Cup Division I standings.
Stanford added a ninth place finish and 32.5 points in women's gymnastics to bring its final winter total to 1,016.5 points. The Cardinal scored in 10 of the 12 winter sports, placing third in men's swimming, sixth in women's swimming and indoor track and field, seventh in fencing and men's gymnastics, 10th in men's indoor track and field, 17th in women and men's basketball and 50th in men's wrestling. Michigan moved into second place with 840.5 points by placing third in men's ice hockey, fourth in men's gymnastics, fifth in women's gymnastics, seventh in men's wrestling, ninth in women's swimming, 11th in men's indoor track and field, 14th in women's swimming and 32nd in women's indoor track and field.
Penn State is in third place with 817.5 points; followed by Texas, in fourth with 668.5 points; and Notre Dame, fifth with 664 points.
This is the final set of winter standings and includes the sports of fencing, skiing, women and men's gymnastics, ice hockey and wrestling and women and men's basketball, swimming and indoor track and field. Winning national championships were Notre Dame in fencing, Utah in skiing, Connecticut in women's basketball, Syracuse in men's basketball, UCLA in women's gymnastics, Oklahoma in men's gymnastics, Minnesota in men's ice hockey, Auburn in women and men's swimming, Louisiana State in women's indoor track and field, Arkansas in men's indoor track and field and Oklahoma State in men's wrestling.
The NACDA Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's. Each national champion receives 100 points.
