The Cardinal had a trio of series win streaks snapped when Arizona won two-of-three against Stanford at Sunken Diamond last Friday-Sunday ... Stanford had won both eight straight overall and eight consecutive Pac-10 series, as well as 15 home Pac-10 series in a row ... Carlos Quentin leads the Pac-10 with a .416 batting average and is .014 percentage points behind Stanford's single-season record of .430 set by Tom Williams in 1972 ... Quentin is also attempting to become the first Stanford player to hit .400 or better since David McCarty finished the 1991 season with a .420 mark ... Quentin has hit safely in 29 of his last 31 games (.460, 57-124) and had a career-high 26-game hit streak that lasted two months (February 22 - April 22) ... Quentin also paces the team in hits (69), doubles (21), walks (30), hit-by-pitches (9), extra-base hits (28) and on-base percentage (.522) ... STANFORD-USC SERIES HISTORY
USC leads Stanford in the all-time series, 198-148-3. However, Stanford has won three-of-four games this season after Saturday's 22-10 victory. Stanford also took two-of-three games (L, 4-13; W, 10-6; W, 18-4) in a non-conference series at Sunken Diamond (2/28 - 3/2) earlier this season and won seven of the eight games played between the clubs last year, including a pair of NCAA Super Regional contests (W, 4-2; W, 5-3). USC last won a series over the Cardinal from April 20-22, 2001 (2-of-3 in Los Angeles).

Santa Clara 2, at Stanford 0 (April 29, 2003)
Santa Clara handed Stanford its first shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory in a non-conference game at Sunken Diamond. The Broncos also snapped a five-game losing streak against Stanford and won for just the second time in the last 27 meetings between the schools dating back to 1997. Eight Santa Clara pitchers limited Stanford to a season-low four hits and the Broncos' pitching staff survived eight walks and two wild pitches over the first five innings as the Cardinal stranded six runners in the first five frames and 10 for the game.
Ryan Chiarelli (2-3) and Matteucci (2-4) had two hits each for the Broncos.

Stanford 22, at USC 10 (May 3, 2003)
John Mayberry, Jr. (5-6, HR, 6 RBI) set new career-highs with five hits and six RBI to lead No. 9 Stanford (29-14, 11-5 Pac-10) to a 22-10 victory over USC (25-20, 9-7 Pac-10) and extend its season-best road win streak to eight games in the delayed opener of a key three-game Pac-10 series at Dedeaux Field. The victory moved Stanford into sole possession of first place in the Pac-10, one-half game of idle Arizona State (10-5 Pac-10).
Ryan Garko (4-6, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) also hit his team-leading 11th homer, tied a career-high with four hits and drove in three runs to increase his team-leading RBI total to 55 and tie his career-high from last year.
Stanford's 22 runs and 18 RBI were season-highs with the run total the most the Cardinal has scored since a seven-inning, 22-5 win over Oregon State on April 14, 2001.
Stanford scored 16 runs in the final three innings to break open a game that had been tied 6-6 after six innings and posted the most runs ever by a USC opponent at Dedeaux Field. The old record was held by Arizona when the Wildcats scored 20 runs versus USC on April 18, 1982.
Danny Putnam (3-3, 2B, 2 HBP) continued his hot hitting for the Cardinal by extending his career-high hit streak to nine games. Donny Lucy was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Jed Lowrie had a pair of career-highs with three RBI and three runs scored.
Travis McAndrews (4-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI) led USC's 17-hit attack, tied for the most given up by the Cardinal pitching staff this season. Darin Vieira (3-5, 2 RBI) had a three-hit game for the Trojans, while Anthony Lunetta (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI) drove in three runs. Joey Metropoulos (2-4, RBI), Spencer Gordon (2-4, 2B) and Michael Moon (2-5, RBI) added two hits each.
David O'Hagan (5-1) got credit for his fifth win of the season as the first of three Stanford relievers, scattering one run and three hits over 1.2 innings. Stanford starter John Hudgins (5.0 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) picked up a no-decision in his shortest outing of the year.
USC's Josh Rummonds (4-3) was charged with the loss as the first of four USC pitchers out of the bullpen, giving up four runs and four hits in 1.1 innings. Trojan starter Anthony Reyes (5.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, 2 HP) received a no-decision.
