Los Angeles, Ca - Lillian Bush and Timi Wusu produced strong performances after day one (Saturday) at the 2003 Pacific-10 Decathlon and Heptathlon Championships at USC.
Bush chalked up 3,226 points after four events to reside in third place in the heptathlon. Wusu tallied 3,767 points to occupy fourth place after five events.
On Sunday, the competition begins at noon for the Decathlon and 1 p.m. for the Heptathlon.
Two second place finishes by Bush helped vault her into third place. Bush ran a career-best 13.83 in the 100 meter hurdles to earn 1,003 points and finished second in the high jump at 5-6 (2.68m) for 830 points. Bush' hurdle time is third best all-time at Stanford.
Wusu, meanwhile, put together two second place finishes during the first day. Wusu earned 833 points in the long jump (23-2 3/4, 7.08m) and a leap of 6-3 1/2 (1.92m) in the high jump for 731 points.
