Stanford To Complete At NCAA Division I Women's Crew Championships

May 20, 2003

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Committee has selected the teams that will compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships.

The championships will be held May 30-June 1 at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis. Indiana University, Bloomington, and the United States Rowing Association serve as co-hosts.

The team championship is comprised of 12 teams, and each team is required to field two boats of eight rowers each and one boat of four rowers. In addition, four eight-women boats from institutions not represented in the team competition are selected.

The selection of teams and individual boats was based on eligibility and availability of student-athletes; regional championship results; regional rankings; late-season performance; head-to-head results; results against teams/boats already selected; results against common opponents and results against regionally ranked teams/boats. One team from each region was selected and the remaining seven teams were selected at large.

The following teams were selected:

Washington earned its fourth title in the I Eights with a time of 6:36.41. Brown held off a determined California crew to finish second at 6:39.87, clinching the team championship. The Bears' team championship was the first for a school that did not win the I Eights.

Along with Washington's win in the I Eights, the Huskies won their first II Eights, rowing a 6:46.39. Brown was second in that race as well.

Brown's only event title was in the Fours, with a time of 7:42.24.
