Seven Cardinal Athletes Tabbed to 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Team

Nick Ellis and David Martin earn First Team honors.

Long Beach, Calif. - Seven Stanford athletes were named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VIII At-Large Team. Seniors Nick Ellis (water polo) and David Martin (tennis) were selected to the First Team and will be on the national ballot for All-America consideration. Jackie Frank (water polo), Tara Kirk (swimming) and Dan Westcott (swimming) were all selected to the Second Team. Lauren Barnikow (tennis) and Lindsay Wing (gymnastics) were named to the Third Team.

The District VIII at-large team encompasses student-athletes from a variety of men's and women's sports and is voted on by CoSIDA members from within the District VIII states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington and the province of British Columbia.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school.
