Stanford, Calif. - Senior goalkeeper Jackie Frank (Long Beach, CA/Los Alamitos HS) was named 2003 Division I Player of the Year by the American Water Polo Coaches Association for the second straight year. The four-time All-American keeper was also named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Women's Second Team, as announced by CoSIDA.
Frank is joined on the AWPCA All-America squad by Julie Gardner and Brenda Villa on the First Team and Wendy Watkins on the Third Team.
Frank, along with seven other Cardinal athletes, was honored on the Academic All-District First, Second and Third Teams.
The 2003 Stanford women's water polo squad finished the season in the NCAA Championship match and claimed the MPSF Tournament title in April. Frank collected 194 saves in her 23 games as the Cardinal reached the NCAA title match for the third consecutive year. Frank is also a finalist for the Pete Cutino Award.
Gardner and Villa were also named to the AWPCA All-America First Team. Both were also named to the All-MPSF First Team earlier this season. Watkins, despite a late-season injury, earned All-MPSF Second Team honors in addition to her selection on the All-America Third Team.
Frank and Villa will be playing with the U.S. National Team this summer as they try to qualify for the 2004 Olympics.
