Tempe, Arizona - The Stanford women's golf team shot a 301 on the first day of competition at the 2003 NCAA West Regional in Tempe, Arizona, today and are currently in ninth place overall. Southern California shot a course record nine-under par 279 to lead the field. Rounding out the top five are Oklahoma State (288), Arizona State (290), Pepperdine (294) and Washington State (297).
Freshman golfer Kelly Husted fired a par 72 today and is tied for 14th on the individual leaderboard to lead the Cardinal. Teammates Kim Kouwabunpat and Kim Rowton are tied for 37th with a four-over par 76. Sophomore Wendra Liang turned in a 77 and is tied for 50th. Junior Angela Rho is tied for 70th with a 79.
UNLV's Sunny Oh and USC's Mikaela Parmlid are tied for the overall individual lead after shooting a five-under par 67. Parmlid's teammate Tanya Dergal, along with WSU's Kim Welch, are tied for third just a stroke back. Three golfers are tied for fifth with a two-under par 70.
Second round action continues tomorrow with 18 holes at the Karsten Golf Course. The top eight teams and top three individuals will advance to the NCAA National Championships at the end of the month.
