No. 21 Stanford Crushes USF 6-1

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's soccer team downed San Francisco 6-1 on Wednesday at Maloney Field. The win improves the No. 21 Cardinal record to 4-3-1 this season.

After not scoring a single goal since the first period of play in the Harvard Invitational on Sept. 14, the Stanford squad came out strong and tallied two scores within the first seven minutes of play and four goals in the first period against USF. Senior co-captain Allyson Marquand scored her second goal of this season on an unassisted shot from 20 yards out in the third minute of play.

Senior Alisan Pabon made good on an assist from junior Amy Grady at 6:30, and was able to tally another score at 17:02 on a crossover assist from Leah Tapscott.

Junior Natalie Sanderson recorded her first score of the season on an assist from freshman Gina Farias-Eisner in the 40th minute of play. Senior Brittany Oliveira upped her goal count this year to two on a score in the 55th minute of play on assists from Marquand and Pabon. Junior Tapscott tallied the final score of the game at 85:38 from junior Katie Wayland.

The Dons' lone goal came in the 28th minute of play when Laura Ott's attempt from Annika Schmidt got by Stanford All-American goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart. Barnhart notched two saves inthe game for 24 this season. USF goalie Jennifer Orantes recorded five saves.

The Cardinal next travel to Moraga, Calif., to face Saint Mary's on Sept. 27, at 1 p.m.
