STANFORD, Calif. - The weekend proved to be a challenging one as the fourth-ranked Stanford women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 22 Pepperdine at Maloney Field on Sunday. The Cardinal's season record drops to 1-2.
The first period was a physical one with Stanford and Pepperdine tallying a combined total of 24 penalties in the scoreless half. Seven different Cardinal were able to get eight shots off before the end of the first period.
Pepperdine's Jennifer Brewer notched the only score of the game with an assist from teammate Ali Pavoni in the 73rd minute of play. Stanford recorded 18 total shots compared to the Waves five. Senior co-captain Ally Marquand led the Cardinal with six shots and now has a team high 12 this season.
The Cardinal next travel to Boston, Mass., to compete in the Harvard Tournament. Stanford faces Harvard at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 and Dartmouth at 11 a.m. on Sept. 14.
