Allyson Marquand Carries Stanford to 3-2 Win Over Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Stanford women's soccer team tallied a 3-2 victory over Arizona at Murphey Stadium on Friday. Senior co-captain Allyson Marquand recorded all three of the Stanford scores to carry the Cardinal to their first Pac-10 victory of the season. The win improves Stanford's record to 6-5-1 this season and 1-0 in Pac-10 Conference action.

The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead off an unassisted goal by junior forward Candice Wilks in the ninth minute. Marquand quickly tied the score at 1-1 at 14:08 with a quick collection at the top of the box for a score. The first period would end tied up at 1-1 and Stanford outshooting Arizona 9-5.

Arizona's Wilks opened the second period with her second score of the game on a stolen ball and goal in the 47th minute of play. Less than one minute after the Wildcat score, Marquand dribbled through heavy Arizona traffic and notched her second goal of the evening to bring the score to 2-2.

Marquand tallied the game-winning goal off an assist 15 yards out from freshman Rachel Buehler at 64:47. Marquand led the team with seven shots, four on goal to bring her season total to 39 attempts.

The Cardinal continue Pac-10 play on the road as they face Arizona State on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
