Former Stanford Greats To Be On Hand For Alumni Games

Men's and Women's Swimming, Field Hockey and Baseball to host Alumni Games this Weekend

Oct. 16, 2003

With Saturday's homecoming football game versus Washington State, many former Stanford greats are expected to return to The Farm to enjoy the festivities and participate in various Alumni Games. Baseball, field hockey, and men's and women's swimming will all be hosting their annual Alumni Games on Saturday and Sunday. Admission to all three events is free.

Alumni action begins Saturday morning with the men's and women's swimming teams holding their annual Alumni meet at Avery Aquatic Center at 9 am (PT).

The annual Alumni Game for baseball will be held at Sunken Diamond at 12:00 pm (PT). Many former Cardinal standouts, including Jeremy Guthrie, A.J. Hinch, Jack McDowell, Kyle Peterson and Carlos Quentin, are expected to be present. The Old-Timers Game will begin at 12 pm, followed by a matchup of the 2004 Stanford Cardinal and recent Alumni.

The Stanford field hockey team will host its annual Alumni Game on Sunday at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf, with a start time of 1:00 pm (PT). Those expected to participate include former National Team player Justina Williams.

Homecoming will be highlighted by the Stanford-Washington State football game on Saturday at 2. In addition, Stanford will be presented with its ninth straight NACDA Directors' Cup at halftime. The award honors the top overall athletic program in the nation. In 2002-03, Stanford easily beat out runnerup Texas by tallying 1,420.5 points to the Longhorns' 1,096. Cardinal teams won two national championships a year ago (men's water polo, men's cross country), placed 14 teams in the top five, 25 in the top 10 and 29 in the top 25.
