Gresham, Or - For the eighth straight season, the Stanford men's cross country team has captured the NCAA West Regional title. And for the fifth straight season, the Cardinal women's cross country team has won the NCAA West Regional title.
Stanford dominated both the men's and women's competition on Saturday at Blue Lake Park, and thus qualified for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 24 in Waterloo, Ia. The Cardinal men, ranked #1 the entire season, tallied 18 points compared to runnerup Cal Poly with 110. Arizona finished third with 132 points. Ian Dobson, the 2003 Pac-10 champion, won the NCAA West Regional title with a time of 29:32 over 10,000 meters. Five Stanford runners finished in ther Top six, and six Stanford runners placed in the Top 10. Ryan Hall finished a close second to Dobson at 29:33.
Alicia Craig captured the NCAA West Regional individual title for the second straight year. Craig toured the 6,000 meter course in a time of 20:06. Sara Bei, the 2003 Pac-10 champion, finished third in a time of 20:27. As a team, Stanford chalked up 45 points, 24 points better than second place UCLA. Washington placed third with 94 points.
