STANFORD, Calif. - A lone Washington State goal in the first period would prove to be the only score as Stanford fell to the Cougars 1-0 at Maloney Field on Sunday. The loss drops the Cardinal record to 9-8-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play.

Stanford was up 3-0 on shots in the first seven minutes of play before a WSU corner kick. Cougar junior Megan Cecchini fired in the assist off the corner kick to Washington State senior Shelby Brownfield. Brownfield scored on a header into the right corner of the net. The first period ended with WSU up 1-0 and Stanford leading in shots 8-3.

The Cardinal tallied eight more shots in the second period and notched 16 shots (10 on goal) by the end of the game. Stanford held the Cougars to three total shot attempts and allowed zero Washington State shots in the second half. WSU goalkeeper Katie Hultin recorded 10 saves.

Senior co-captain Allyson Marquand led the Cardinal with six shots (four on goal) followed by senior Brittany Oliveira with four attempts. Stanford goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart had two saves.

The Cardinal wrap-up regular season action on Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. against Pac-10 foe California at Maloney Field.
