No. 7 Cardinal Sweeps Oregon 3-0

Stanford, Calif. - Junior outside hitter Ogonna Nnamani notched a match-high 14 kills while hitting .560 as the seventh-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team swept Oregon tonight, 3-0, in Maples Pavilion. Game scores were 30-10, 30-20, 30-20.

The Cardinal improve to 20-6 on the year, 13-4 in the Pac-10 while the Ducks fall to 3-23 overall, 0-17 in league play.

With game one tied at two-all, Stanford strung together three points to go up 5-2 on a block by Jennifer Harvey and Ogonna Nnamani. The Cardinal increased their lead to 13-4 after a kill by Sara Dukes and led 15-5 at the media timeout. A Kristin Richards kill put Stanford up 18-6 and a kill by Harvey at 23-9 forced an Oregon timeout. The Cardinal continued to roll reaching game point on a Duck attack error at 29-10. A ball handling error by Oregon ended the game at 30-10 in favor of Stanford. The Cardinal hit a stellar .538 for game one.

Stanford opened an early 9-4 lead in game two after a kill by Ogonna Nnamani and led 15-9 at the media timeout after another Nnamani kill. Jennifer Hucke notched a kill to put the Cardinal up 20-9 while a Kristin Richards kill gave Stanford the 25-14 lead. SU reached game point on a service ace by Leahi Hall at 29-19 and an Oregon service error ended the game at 30-20.

The Ducks came out firing in game three taking an early 5-2 lead. Stanford tied up the game at six-all on a service ace by Kristin Richards. The Cardinal led 15-11 at the media timeout after an Oregon service error. A dump by setter Katie Goldhahn pushed the Stanford lead to 23-16 and a Duck service error at 25-18 forced an Oregon timeout. Freshman middle blocker Liz Suiter's kill put the Cardinal up 27-18 and a Kristin Richards' kill gave Stanford match point at 29-19. Freshman middle blocker Michelle Mellard ended the game and match at 30-20 on a kill to give SU the victory.

Richards' had nine kills, a match-high 11 digs, two service aces and added three solo blocks on the evening for the Cardinal. Rightside hitter Jennifer Hucke tallied eight kills while hitting .538 (8-1-13). Middle blocker Jennifer Harvey added six kills and a match-high four blocks.

The Ducks were led by Lauren Westendorf's eight kills and nine digs. Setter Heather Madison had 25 assists and a service ace on the night.

Stanford closes out conference play tomorrow night against Oregon State at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
