ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Stanford senior Lauren Barnikow and sophomore Alice Barnes advanced to second-round action at the 2003 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center on Thursday.
Barnes, seeded No. 8 for Stanford, downed Michigan's Elizabeth Exon 6-2, 6-0 in the first round of women's singles competition. She will take on Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky in the second round on Friday.
Barnikow, entering the tournament as an at-large selection, downed Tulane's Jule Smekodub 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. She will face Anda Perianu of Oklahoma in the second round.
