Stanford, Calif. - After the first day of competition, Stanford and UCLA are ahead of the pack after both posting two wins to stay atop the tournament brackets.
The Cardinal improved to 3-0 on the season by handing No. 5 California a 7-4 loss in the second game of the afternoon session. San Jose State edged Indiana 11-9, to improve the Spartans tournament standing to 1-1 while dropping the Hoosiers to 0-2. The nation's top-ranked team will face off against Indiana tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the Avery Pool while Cal and San Jose State match up in the Baker Pool.
UCLA dropped USC 8-4 before Hawai'i handed UC Santa Cruz a 20-3 loss. The Bruins will meet the Banana Slugs for a 10 a.m game tomorrow in the Baker Pool and the Trojans will face the Rainbows in the Avery Pool.
