Stanford Women's Eight Wins Big At Windermere Collegiate Classic

Redwood Shores, Calif. - The Stanford Varsity Women's eight won by decisive margins both Saturday and Sunday at the inaugural Windermere Collegiate Rowing Classic. The Card faced Virgina (9th NCAA '02) and Michigan State (14th NCAA '02) on Saturday and Ohio State (4th NCAA '02) Sunday. With each race the varsity eight grew more and more confident as they stretched out their margin of victory. The top Cardinal eight won the varsity eight event by having the largest overall victory margin among the other boats racing in the round robin event.

The second varsity eight improved greatly during the weekend as they finished up with their best race of the regatta. After a tough week of seat racing a a switch of lineups the Stanford 2V settled into a solid rhythm. The boat looks to carry this progress into next weekend.

The varsity four, comprised of three novice rowers, a senior rower and a sophomore coxswain had three solid races as they gained valuable race experience during the three race competition. Each race improved with the highlight being the last 500 meters of the MSU race where Stanford lead a hard charge to the line, but came up short.
