Redwood Shores, CA - As crews on the East Coast eagerly prepared for their next snowstorm, the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic began racing under ideal conditions. Stanford Crew raced well throughout the two-day event. Racing began with the Penn Quakers on Saturday morning and continued with Navy Academy and the Wisconsin Badgers.
The Quakers and Cardinal battled to a near standstill in the first 1000 meters before the Quakers made a move to push out into a half-boat lead that resulted in victory. The Cardinal's victory over Navy in the afternoon race on Saturday was decided with a final burst of powerful strokes close to the finish. On Sunday, the Wisconsin Badgers attained victory in the second annual Dylan Cappel cup.
In other races, the Stanford Second Varsity beat crews from Penn and Navy but fell to Wisconsin on Sunday. The Stanford Freshman lost to both the Sacramento State Varsity and the Wisconsin Frosh. The Cardinal next race in San Diego on April 5-6. For more coverage of the Windermere Crew Classic, visit www.row2k.com.
