Santa Barbara, Calif. - After the first day of competition at the UCSB Gaucho Invitational, Stanford, Long Beach State, USC and UCLA remain unbeaten.
Stanford earned its first win of the day with a 13-0 shutout over UC Santa Cruz. The Cardinal recorded eight goals in the first period as 11 different players scored in the match. Stanford then upped its 2003 record to 9-0 by doubling up Hawai'i 14-7 in the second match of the day.
Cardinal junior Brenda Villa notched four goals on the day to lead Stanford while UCLA's Natalie Golda tabbed eight scores to lead the tournament field.
Top-ranked Stanford will match up against Long Beach State on Sunday, March 9th at 10:20 a.m. in the Campus Pool. The Cardinal will wrap up competition tomorrow afternoon against either UCLA or USC. The Trojans and Bruins face off at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday to determine the third place and championship pairings.
