No. 3 Stanford Trumps No. 7 Hawai'i

Stanford, Calif. - The third-ranked Stanford women's water polo team posted its second win of the weekend today as the Cardinal notched a 9-3 win over the seventh-ranked Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine today at the Avery Aquatic Center. Stanford keeper Jackie Frank tabbed nine saves as the Cardinal saw seven different players score at least one goal.

Stanford, now 16-2 overall with an 8-1 record in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play, will close out conference play on Friday with a home match against San Jose State at 7 p.m. Hawai'i dropped to 10-12 on the season with a 4-6 mark in the MPSF.

Stanford held a convincing 5-0 lead at the half before the Rainbow Wahine put their first mark on the board. The Cardinal opened the first quarter with a goal 1:19 into the game by sophomore Hannah Luber. Teammate and sister Kelty Luber doubled the score two minutes later before senior Julie Gardner gave Stanford a 3-0 lead to wrap up the first period. Each Luber scored again in the second period to give the Cardinal its 5-0 halftime margin.

In the second half, Kristy Bagnall put Hawai'i on the board on their first possession, but Stanford pulled away with a 7-1 lead before scoring twice again in the final seven minutes. Hawai'i goalie Amber Lumb kept her team in the match, collecting 11 saves on the day.

Stanford will return to action on Friday, April 18th at 7 p.m. for Senior Night to thank its four players in their final campaign as the Cardinal face San Jose State.
