SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Stanford University men's volleyball team fell to UCSB in the morning in three games (30-17, 30-23, 30-23) before bouncing back to defeat Pacific in five games (29-31, 30-27, 30-25, 23-30, 15-13) in its final game of the UCSB/Elephant Bar Collegiate Invitational. With the win, the Cardinal even its overall record to 2-2 on the season.
In the morning contest, Stanford fell to the host Gauchos in three games. Sophomore outside hitter Ben Reddy paced the Cardinal with 10 kills, while redshirt junior Pat Bomhack registered seven kills and nine assists. Sophomore Jeremy Jacobs handed out a team-high 23 assists, while freshman Josh Schwarzapel collected seven digs.
The Cardinal bounced back in its afternoon contest to defeat Pacific in five games. The Tigers grabbed the first game 31-29, but the Cardinal responded by taking games two (30-27) and three (30-25). After the Tigers won game four, the Cardinal captured game five 15-13.
Junior outside hitter David Vogel followed up last night's career performance with a team-high 16 kills. Vogel, who registered a career-high 19 kills versus Long Beach State in the first round, also posted eight digs. Junior middle blocker Craig Buell added 15 kills, while Jacobs paced the Cardinal with 10 digs. Junior All-MPSF setter Kevin Hansen registered 61 assists in the win.
The Cardinal return to The Farm for a two-game homestand. Stanford will face the UCLA Bruins on Friday, January 16th, before hosting UC Irvine on the 17th.
