STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford University men's volleyball team fell to No. 2 Long Beach State, 3-1, Friday night in the Pyramid in Long Beach, CA. With the loss, the Cardinal fall to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. Long Beach State improves to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in MPSF action. Game scores for the match were 22-30, 30-27, 27-30-, and 28-30.

The 49ers jumped out to a one game lead taking game one, 30-22. Long Beach State was led by Jeff Wooten who hammered home six kills in the game, while registering a .857 hitting percentage. Stanford redshirt junior Pat Bomhack paced the Cardinal attack in game one with five kills.

The Cardinal responded in game two, taking advantage of eight Long Beach hitting errors. Junior David Vogel led the Cardinal attack with six kills in the game.

Long Beach State would prove to be too much for the Cardinal, taking games three and four by scores of 30-27, and 30-28, respectively. Vogel led the Cardinal with a career-high 20 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Chris Ahlfeldt added 11 kills on a .524 hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker Craig Buell and Bomhack each chipped in 10 kills apiece, while Kevin Hansen and William Clayton added six each. Hansen, who was named MPSF Player of the Week this past Thursday, added a team-high 58 assists and five digs.

The Cardinal will look for a road split when they travel to UC San Diego on Saturday night. Stanford returns home to face UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge on January 30th and the 31st.
