STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 2 Stanford women's tennis team shutout No. 56 Texas Christian, sweeping every match to defeat TCU 7-0 at Taube Tennis Center on Monday.
Senior Lauren Barnikow and junior Erin Burdette, the 2003 Pac-10 Doubles Team of the Year, defeated TCU duo of Karla Mancinas and Paty Aburto 8-3. Stanford sophomore Alice Barnes and freshman Anne Yelsey paired to take an 8-6 victory over Ana Cetnik and Saber Pierce of Texas Christian. At the No. 3-doubles position, the Cardinal senior-freshman duo of Emilia Anderson and Theresa Logar downed Paige Brown and Jenn Chay 8-2.
The Cardinal carried the momentum into singles action, led by Barnes at the No. 1 spot. Barnes, ranked No. 21 by the ITA, only dropped three games to defeat Chay in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. Stanford dominated singles action, dropping only one set to TCU.
Stanford next plays host to Stanford on Friday, Jan. 30, at 1:30 p.m. at Taube Tennis Center.
