NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 7 Stanford University women's gymnastics team was edged, 196. 275-196.175, by the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Oklahoma. The Cardinal suffered their second consecutive loss and fall to 5-3 on the season, while the Sooners improve to 8-7 on the year.
The Cardinal won the vault and beam, but were uncharacteristically shaky on bars and floor. On the vault, the Cardinal captured the top three spots, scoring a 49.100. Sophomore Jessica Louie continued to perform well on the vault, capturing first with a 9.875, followed by sophomore All-American Natalie Foley, who registered a 9.850, while fellow sophomore All-American Glyn Sweets tied for third place with a 9.825.
The Cardinal, the third ranked bar team in the country, only managed a 48.700. Senior All-American Lindsay Wing posted the top score of the night, earning a 9.925.
Last week, at UCLA, the Cardinal were shaky on the balance beam, an event that Stanford has traditionally excelled at. The Cardinal were back to their normal selves, posting a team score of 49.275. Stanford captured the top three spots with Wing leading the way with a 9.900, followed by senior All-American Lise L?veill? who scored a 9.875. Sweets tied for third with a score of 9.850.
Stanford, the ninth ranked team in the country on floor, struggled in the floor exercise, posting a 49.100. Senior All-American Caroline Fluhrer led the Cardinal with a 9.875, while Wing, Louie, and L?veill? each earned a 9.825.
For the Cardinal in the all-around, Wing placed third with an overall score of 39.275, while Fluhrer was fourth with a 38.900.
Stanford returns to The Farm for its last home meet of the season when the Cardinal host Cal on Friday, February 20, 2004 at 7:00 pm (PT) in Burnham Pavilion.
